Using our service
What to send
As long as you've got something you'd like help with, we will get cracking. We appraise fiction in any genre or category, from single short stories up to full-length novels, including part-works (e.g. a synopsis and sample chapters that might make up an initial submission to an agent or publisher). If you are sending a part-work of a novel, a synopsis is essential to help us see how you intend the book to develop.
How to submit
Once you've decided that Literary Intelligence is the right consultancy for you, follow these simple steps to complete the submission procedure.
- calculate the fee
- complete the submission form
- enclose a stamped addressed Jiffy (padded) envelope. This should show your name and address, and bear sufficient postage to cover the return of your manuscript, which will be littered with helpful annotations to be read in conjunction with the tutor's report
- send it - but please note, we cannot accept liability for items lost in the post
- never send us the only copy of your work
What happens next?
Once your work arrives we will acknowledge receipt, at which time we will tell you how long we expect to take appraising your work. Our usual turnaround time for a full-length submission is 6 - 8 weeks. Shorter pieces may be turned around more quickly.
Occasionally, because of workload, we run longer turnaround times. If these are unacceptable, the client may terminate the commission and receive a full refund.
Once we have appraised your manuscript we will return it, together with our detailed written critique. The length of the report will vary, but for a full-length submission it will usually be in the order of six-eight pages, cross-referenced to additional notes marked on the manuscript itself. It will always be exhaustive and will cover everything that needs to be addressed.
